The SMART IRB Reliance System offers 3 distinct login options, including Single Sign On (SSO), NIH, and Login.gov. Each of these methods incorporates multi-factor authentication (MFA) to ensure secure login. Please note that it is critical that you select the login method that applies for you at the time of account creation, or this may impact your access to the SMART IRB Reliance System. The methods for signing on are as follows:
Single Sign On (SSO)
For institutions that are members of the InCommon Federation, you may utilize your institutional SSO credentials to access the SMART IRB Reliance System. If your institution is not in the InCommon Federation and you are not an NIH employee, you will need to use Login.gov.
NIH
NIH sign on is intended for NIH staff and employees, and should only be selected by designated employees of the NIH.
Login.gov
For individuals and institutions who lack SSO credentials in the InCommon Federation, the login.gov method should be utilized. Please note that you will need to also create a 'login.gov' account as well, using the same e-mail used to register with SMART IRB.
