The SMART IRB Standard Operating Procedures ("SOPs" or "SMART IRB SOPs") were drafted to help Participating Institutions implement the requirements of the Agreement and their roles and responsibilities outlined in the Agreement. For example, the SOPs provide detailed guidance on carrying out communication and notification responsibilities under the Agreement.
For Version 3.0 of the SMART IRB Agreement, for research that is not subject to Mandated Policies, Participating Institutions are strongly encouraged to use and follow the SMART IRB Standard Operating Procedures (“SMART IRB SOPs”) with respect to the conduct of their reliance relationships under this Agreement. If Participating Institutions choose not to use the SMART IRB SOPs, institutions agree to communicate in writing with one another regarding what policies and procedures will apply to the research study under the SMART IRB Agreement.
